Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Or is it?

For many years we were told that you should eat breakfast like a king, eat lunch like a prince and eat dinner like a pauper.  Yet again, dietary science has been turned on its head.  What we use to believe as gospel can turn on a dime spurred by continuous new scientific discoveries.

Intermittent fasting has become the new health and weight loss trend in the last few years.  Even though this concept has been around for quite a while, it seems to be gaining momentum in the dietary community.

In a nutshell, intermittent fasting is skipping breakfast and giving your digestive system a break for about 16 hours and only having your meals within an 8-hour window.  Of course, it’s probably best if you’re eating nutritious whole foods within that period of time.

The main benefit is the reduction of body fat.  However, there are reports of improved immunity, increase testosterone and an increase in lifespan.  I, myself, do intermittent fasting and have experienced weight loss and increased stamina.  Also, skipping a meal saves time and money.

As always, consult your physician when making any significant changes to your diet.  Intermittent fasting may not be for everyone.
